Climbing the Tower without the queue

The oldest working Roman lighthouse in the world has 234 steps and two good hours to climb them.

The Tower of Hercules can be seen from half the city, so almost nobody checks the opening hours until they're standing in front of it.

The two good hours

The first of the day and the last before closing. Mid-morning is when the tour groups converge, and the climb turns into a queue at a standstill inside a stone cylinder.

Getting a ticket

Buy it at the booth downstairs or online. In high season, go for the second option: the staircase has a small capacity and it sells out.

The sculpture park

Half the visit happens outside. The path around the headland loops all the way round the point and it's free.
